Hi all . I'm more flexitarian than vegan, but am doing my part to cut way back on meats. The best thing we can do is stop buying meat products. How do we convince others to do this as well?
I have hardcore vegan friends that post severe animal suffering videos and try to back it up with environmental stats on how the methane from animals is destroying the world. Does their approach work? I don't know, but my approach is to share delicious vegan finds and hope that others buy them too.
In a world where reality stands, whether we like it or not, there needs to be a fact check. The big fish eat the little fish- 'so if we kill all the big fish', is not the answer. If there are starving people, eating eggs disturbs no thinking persons ethics or morals. An unattended hen will sit on an unfertilized egg till it rots. I have heard of people who have collected eggs, and then let the hens live a natural, long life.
Even though I don't eat meat- I will never lose site of reality and join some weird cult. Ursi, I agree with you. There are some fantastic meals made with just veggies and spices. I do a good job in the kitchen occasionally- but I also have an inverse talent - I can burn water.
I like your approach. If I want to eat it, I will eat it!
No...in my opinion their approach to show such images is overkill and a real turn off. it’s like the Pro-Life lobby who think that showing shocking pictures of aborted foetuses will justify their cause of denying women the right to make the decision on individual choice grounds.. Both are arguments that should be made on rational and logical grounds and not on purely a reaction to emotive images, otherwise there is no real debate. Let’s lay out the pros and cons of meat-eating and their consequences to both our own health and that of the environment and use reason to win the argument. We have evolved over many eons to be omnivores, as is evidenced by the teeth in our mouths...not vegetarians or vegans, but that doesn’t mean we cannot evolve further.
Well said
