Love this chart, because the veggies win.

However, it is much harder to eat the same weight of spinach as it is a slab of beef (not that I've eaten the latter in 18 years!). Also, per calorie, animal products still have the edge. I looked into it when I saw that my calorie intake was a bit high, while my protein intake was a bit low. Tofu and tempeh should help in that respect, as should some protein powders!

For all veggies and vegans, I would recommend doing a calculation of your protein intake. I was shocked mine was so low. "But I eat chickpeas all the time!". Yet it wasn't enough. Know what you're dealing with, don't just eat a load of broccoli and assume it's fine.

After being a vegetarian for well over 20 years, I became dairy free a couple of years ago and never look back. But so many people “feign concern” about where I get protein. Such a tedious topic. I never ever worry about it. I do think there is a vegan tide coming-it is becoming a lot more mainstream with foods, restaurants and options. Such a good thing.??

It is based on a % or per cent oh the whole. This could be converted to calories like 9 calories of fat = 1 gram.

Is this based on weight?

per cent. of food content. There could be other food substances and probably is. There is not enough info to put it into weight or calories.
