I had a BBQ jackfruit sandwich for lunch today. It was my first time trying a jackfruit product. It was a little unsettling how much it resembled pork! However, when I ate it the texture reminded me more of artichoke hearts or hearts of palm. The sauce was pretty good and spicier than I expected. I definitely recommend it and plan to purchase it again in the future.

A few months ago there were a couple of raw jackfruit in the produce section at Kroger's. Those things are huge and ugly. And they were $22 a piece. I was tempted, but had never dealt with one. It looked like a cross between a watermelon and a hedgehog.

I've never seen one in the store, and I sure wouldn't be tempted to try it at that price! For $22 I could buy 5 or 6 packages or cans of the already processed product that is ready to eat!

Someone posted a recipe for bar-B-qued watermelon. Looked interesting.

Hmm, that seems interesting.

For some reason I can not get myself to eat it.

I know what you mean! It looks weird, but it was really good.

@dkp93 Was the texture really slimey?

@GreatNani Not at all!

@dkp93 ok. It looks icky in the can. But I will give it a try.

@GreatNani This didn't come in a can. I know what type you are referring to, but I've never used it. This was already mixed with the BBQ sauce. All I had to do was open the pouch and heat it in a pan. I am interested in trying some canned stuff, and hope you'll let us know how it goes for you. Be brave!
