Jackfruit isn’t fake pork, it’s real jackfruit. I don’t want to be constantly comparing my food to food I don’t want. My chickpea salad is to good to call it fake tuna, it’s a chickpea salad
I agree with you. I also don’t get why vegans are so excited by meat alts that look and taste like meat.
I at least initially went vegan for health and it seems many vegans won’t be happy until vegan food is as bad for you as meat. That said, if it gets people to go vegan that otherwise would not have it’s a win for the world, even though you and I may not want to eat it
I like the word "faux". I like using it, as it gives others who may not know exactly what you're talking about, something to equate it it. Also, there are lots of variations on things, like chicken-less patties, chik'n tenders, chik'n salad, and so forth. Imitation works as well. But I agree, meatless food isn't fake.
Me not so much but I understand the sentiment. I’m 4 years no meat, meat is not part of my food or life so I’d rather not keep pretending it’s somehow a relevant term. That said, I’m not offended in the least if others like faux, fake or what have you. Either way, taste is the same?
I COMPLETELY agree!! The “fake stuff” (a.k.a. Vegan Junk Food) is great to introduce people to plant based eating, but you really have to grow to LOVE your veggies to make this lifestyle work.
I admit that I enjoy a few guilty pleasures like Field Roast mini corn dogs and the occasional veggie patty on a toasted bun, but I stay happiest and healthiest with whole food ingredients prepared sensibly with a litany of delightful herbs and spices. It feels great to treat my body to wholesome nutrition and beneficial herbs as a normal routine.
