I remember hearing on NPR about how anthropologists have shown that in Hunter-gatherer times more food came from the gathering of foods than hunting. Meat was scarce and during certain times hard to find. I remember having a clipping from Hemingway or Faulkner (I forget which one) how, in the end animals will get their revenge as humans because of the murderous genes passed on through the act of killing other sentient beings will start to kill themselves. Nah, that will never happen?

One of the most interesting things for me was that it came from a (granted it's kind of left oriented) straight news site.
