Hello, joining you because I seem to be drifting towards mostly vegan food. I have always been allergic to cow's milk, too poor to eat much beef and not in love with processed meat. There is fish, which presents a problem. I grew up with fish, herring, cod, other fish from the North Sea. Here in America, herring is being ground into chicken feed, and the eggs sold as enriched with omega -3.
My vegetarian voyage started with Indian food. I am quite adept with the methods and spices. Vegan cooking slipped in there watching The Happy Pear on YouTube. Their chickpea with greens curry was the first dish I cooked. Delicious. I look forward to discussing our lifestyle with all of you.
I also have the issue with dairy. It can be sneaky in affecting a part of one's body without them making a connection (it can reduce your immune system). I also have a small problem with gluten. One great cultural group that has both vegan and GF are Thai food/restaurants.
When I was a baby, my mother had to stop breastfeeding me when she was pregnant with my brother. I was given cow's milk and became ill. It was called Failure to thrive. The doctor recommended sheep's milk, supposedly easier for babies to digest. So I was raised on sheep's milk. My parents bought a ewe, East Frisian Milksheep, and my mother, a true inner-city child had to learn to milk a sheep in her 20s. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 16. That is an autoimmune disease, and one doctor thought that milk was the culprit. I used to milk cows by hand. The smell of warm milk always made me queasy.
I have been trying to spread the message in my extended family about milk and the constant state of inflammation it causes in the human digestive system, but just like my message about the perils of religion, it is an uphill battle.
I will have to look into Thai food. Thanks for the recommendation.`
@Spinliesel We have a couple on island. One makes cheese and she told me some interesting things. First there are two types of cows A & B. A cows are bred for maximum milk. They are often one breed and lots of things are added (drugs) to produce maximum milk. The B cow is basically any milk cow with no chemicals (organic). Of course the A cows milk often creates a problem. She also confirmed what you said. Cows milk is the most different from human. Next comes Goat milk and Sheep is the most like human. Their intelligence (or lack thereof) is also like many humans (my observation).
So glad you joined the group! I look forward to your comments and hopefully you’ll share some of your recipes.
