The sun has been vital, of course. I don't think the (other) stars had anything at all to do with evolution, but the moon's role in stabilising the Earth's axial tilt might have helped somewhat.

In some cases. My wife and I have just celebrated our 40th anniversary. She describes herself as a Christian (specifically Anglican), and wants a religious funeral service in the event that she pre-deceases me. But she is no longer a church-goer and can't stand fundamentalists any more than I can, so she's a pretty easy sort of Christian to get along with. A while back she wanted to find a particular psalm, but had to go online because she couldn't find the bible. (I found it later.) Some Christians are OK. :)

One thing that bothers me a lot about this cryptocurrency thing is the huge amount of energy needed to mine it and to maintain blockchains, all of which is essentially wasted as heat, and will soon be (if it isn't already) a significant contributor to global warming.

My suggestion (as someone who has never faced this situation and whose advice might therefore be somewhat suspect), is to talk normally about everyday matters but as soon as religion comes up, be completely silent. (Might take some will-power, especially if they ask direct questions.)

I'm not a biologist either, so much of it is beyond me. But it makes me wonder if other advanced species (primates, other mammals) also have a high proportion of microbial DNA, and whether they (and we) could even have evolved without it.
