Yes, I do this a lot. I sometimes mispronounce words the way they ought to sound phonetically, to help me remember how to spell them, like pronouncing all the silent letters and so on. For instance: phelgm (fleg-im), muscle (musk-el), apropos (a prop ohs), receipt (re-seeped) and the like. I'll also add syllables to invent fake word roots, like saying re-sentiment for resentment or counter-propsicle for counterproposal. On a related note, I've helped countless people learn how to pronounce Joaquin Phoenix's first name by pointing out that is pronounced like quinoa backwards. But then I just go on to pronounce it like jo-AH-queen to be irritating immediately afterwards.

I'm an authoritarian libertarian: I want you all to do whatever the hell I want. Just kidding! But I do think the dichotomies in the map are wrong. Libertarian and Authoritarian are not opposites, but just different shades of the same thing. If you deny your responsibility to your fellow citizens, you are saying you deserve more than them, just because you had better luck - and that they should respect your "private property". What is the net effect of this? Obey my money, or starve. See my first sentence, which captures the absurdity in the hidden attitude behind it perfectly.

I sometimes have an internal conversation with the various parts of myself and check for the motive to hang onto the upset. If it's my inner bodyguard, for example, I let them know the threat has passed (if indeed it has) and that their services are no longer needed in this particular matter, but are welcomed and valued in other matters. That seems to help somewhat.

I agree completely with your point and that of Harari's. One thing that I think it is important to understand about inter-subjectivity as Harari describes it is that it requires an infrastructure of shared narrative. That's a point that I think you might have missed emphasizing in your description and what is causing some confusion in the discussion of this topic by others. If a change is made by fiat, the reason why this becomes an inter-subjective fact is that all the people who it affects already believe in the narrative that they should accept the results of the fiat, and the change exists in a continuum of other changes that have already occurred, and so makes sense. The proof of this is that if you went to a primitive island culture unconnected from everyone else and started telling them that they have to start using money like everyone else (as an example of a fiat) they would look at you like you have five heads. They wouldn't even know what money is, much less accept anything you had to say about it. It would be total fairy tale to them. There is nothing whatsoever objective about money, but it is also not just a personal fantasy. It is a collective fantasy that we all agree to share because we share an overarching narrative about nations, economic systems, who gets to control it, how the tokens receive their value, etc. We could try to unilaterally deny it, of course, but then we just would be unable to participate in exchange with others who accept the useful fiction.

I feel that I should be clear here that I'm not trying to make light of the situation in any way. I'm absolutely horrified at what these men have done to the nuns and the ways they have abused their power and authority. There's no excuse and no justification for manipulating or abusing people in non-consensual ways. I also want to acknowledge that many of us take the dark aspects of life and cope with them through our play, reversing what was once non-consensual and playing it out in our fantasies. Perhaps that's our way of "purging demons" so to speak (or befriending them?). It's more honest, authentic, and aligned with our humanity. Anyway, my main point is that I'm not trying to undermine the seriousness of the crime and don't want anyone to get the wrong message, nor to think that I'm in any way on the side of these perpetrators or any perpetrators.

On a related note: I want to put in a bid for taking responsibility for those patterns and traits, without shame. For instance, if you have a tendency to lash out at others because you were abused, it is forgivable and understandable, but you are still responsible to manage and heal those responses (therapy, hint hint) so as not to abuse others around you - especially in intimate relationships, and with children. Don't you all agree?
