@silverotter11 I learned doing cone 10 reduction in a downdraft natural gas kiln. What you might do is build a Minigama. It's a tiny wood kiln for 1or 2 pots.

Raku is a fast firing technique originally crafted around the Japanese Tea Ceremony. I've read other accounts of its origins but that's the one most often quoted in the ceramics field. However, in the West, we don't have that concept. We fast fire, for sure, but then we pull it from the kiln while red hot and then place the piece into a container filled with organic materials that combust on contact with the clay piece. That creates a post fired reduction environment that can generate brilliant reds from copper which turns green in an oxidizing environment. Look up Paul Soldner, deceased, for some more info and pictures. It's great fun!!

I was kidding! Most people don't realize that all corn is GMO!! I think there's a misconception of what GMOs really are. Who was the guy, Mendehl, that worked with the peas a few hundred years ago?? That's GMO but people don't stop to consider it.@WizardBill

They're easy to build!! And fairly cheap, especially if you can find an old electric kiln that someone is giving away. Gut the electrical stuff and just use the thing for its brick shell. Fire with propane.@btroje

@astrochuck I use a regular T-5 until right before the budding stage and then switch to red or go into the greenhouse that's sheathed with row cover to let it begin to acclimate. That's what I generally do but I'm sure a whole lot of people do it differently with even better results than I get.
