When I hear people criticizing Trump for withdrawing from Syria and Afghanistan, I have to think - if these people had their way, we would STILL be in Vietnam. Maybe these folks would be willing to go there and fight, maybe they just have not looked at THIS [usdebtclock.org] lately. Maybe they have not bothered to read the Constitution either. Maybe they fail to see the crumbling infrastructure in the US, how citizens do not even have good drinking water. Maybe they have forgot what happened to the Soviet Union when it tried to police the world. Maybe they are proud that the US used Agent Orange in Vietnam, used Depleted Uranium and White Phosphorus in other nations. Maybe they like the fact that we have been supporting racist regimes like the Zionists in Israel, and despots in Saudi Arabia. Maybe they like the fact that as a result of all of these wars, our police at home have become militarized and behave like they are occupying a country. Maybe they are proud of the drones, dropping bombs on civilian targets, hospitals . . . Maybe they have fail to see that if you really want to know where the world terrorists are, just look at what we have had in Washington and what they have been doing. Maybe they like the fact that about one million people died as a result of what was all done under false pretenses in Iraq. When the political leaders sell war against another nation, they dehumanize the other nation, en masse - it is one of the worst forms of racism. Using force rather than diplomacy does not solve world problems, it only creates chaos, death, suffering, more enemies, more terrorism and more problems. Maybe they fail to realize that they are supporting the Christian fucktards who think they are on a crusade . . . . They even think that they might be instrumental in bringing about the "End Times". Maybe they like supporting out of control dictators, who have no sense of right or wrong, no moral compass, and hell bent on destruction of anything that opposes them.
. Prior to World War One, many people thought that the machine gun would prevent wars from happening. They were wrong. Prior to World War Two, they thought that the even more powerful artillery and weapons would prevent war . . . . They were wrong again. Prior to World War Three, they think that nuclear weapons will prevent World War . . . . . . They are right . . . . War will not happen once the human race is wiped off of the planet.

The problem here is that this is a politically motivated withdrawal. Pulling out of Syria was the final straw for General Mattis and sorry, but I'll trust the top General in the nation over random people online.

Hell, Mattis over Trump every effing day.

So . . . . either you did not read the post, or you are simply a supporter of all kinds of crazy shit, as listed above.

@THHA No, you equated keeping the troops in Syria to liking Agent Orange or the Vietnam War. The fact that you think the comparison is even somewhat relevant is preposterous. If you want to throw around absurd claims you can of course as this is the internet and that's a big part of how we're so fucked up during the information age, but not everyone is going to buy it.

I understand your points however I just wonder will we need to return because the job was not finished and now we will face a stronger army with greater deaths. We should not have been in either place to start with. Second ,the reason he is doing this is to find money to build his stupid wall.

True dat.

Eisenhower tried to warn us and people like Ron Paul And Ralph Nader has continued to tell us that the military industrial complex will have its pound of flesh at all cost.

And I also believe that our federal reserve has its hands in it as well when you consider that every time we’re either not involved in a military conflict or we attempt to pull away from one they either Jack our interest rates up or they stop producing new money.
as in the case of the Great Depression where they stopped producing new money and didn’t go above 20% until we committed to the 2nd world war at which point they couldn’t print it fast enough.

But the worst part of what we’ve dealt with since the late 80’s after we chased the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan and when asked if we stay and help them build a thriving society we just looked at them like they were a short chubby who had a crush on us and laughed and walked away.

Then we ran to save the oil back in the 90’s and left a leader in place to abuse his people for allowing us to win and conditioning them to hate us so whenever we’d come back that they’d kill them selves in order to kill us.

And with every other country that we’ve double crossed and bombed it should be as no surprise that we’re so hated in the Middle East and Southwest Asia. And if it weren’t for the deals that lord Rothschild negotiated between the Saud’s and the founding leaders of Israel we’d have two less allies and one more enemy.

But as you mentioned with Vietnam our media has never told us that Nuygen Sinh Cung aka Ho Chi Minh had met with two different U S presidents as well as worked for us during world war 2 just to get us to ask the French to decolonize indo China.

For over 40 years he put his faith and trust in us and we used him and not once did we ever show that we attempted to do anything to persuade the French to leave China have him and his every thing that needed and we were defeated in the process.

Just as we have been in regards to the Middle East and once again the media should’ve been the first to point out that there was a correlation between us being in Afghanistan and our extreme rise in heroine but ironically we haven’t left.

I still find it odd that The New York Times reported back 2002 that osama died from kidney failure and then was told to retract it that same day but later when we flew helicopters in and out of Pakistan with no interference from them to kill a man that we’ve been told was osama but he was simply thrown over board in the middle of the ocean just in time for our new enemy isis to enter the stage.

Honestly I could probably write 3 pages of this whole shit show and still not cover everything that we’ve done to either encourage certain things to happen or the way that we have used the media to manipulate Americans into believing that something different was actually happening.
Either way like it or not we’re just leaving something that we had no real business being involved in the first place.

Yes! In a nutshell, the military industrial complex and the oil companies (all owned by the 1%) are pulling the strings and we (the 99%) are being jerked around.

As I see it, we have priorities here that must be addressed. It does not make sense to me to have expensive resources deployed in places like Syria and Afganistan when we have domestic issues to work on. Once again, no politician would have had the balls to make such a bold move. Pulling out of Syria seems logical to me, good for Trump. The ironic side of the story is that the same people trashing Trump with "What a hell are we doing in Syria" is the SAME people that is bitching now "Why are we pulling out of Syria". He just can't win but, good thing he clearly does NOT give a rats ass and he will do as he see fit because that is is godamn job. Hats off to 45 on this one.

@Veteran229 yup, face palm

@Veteran229 I think it's just lack of common sense clouded by TDS

I think what they are objecting to is not the withdrawal, but the precipitous nature of the withdrawal.

This is the most non-binary thinking comment in the thread.
Should we leave? Sure, but how do we execute that withdrawal and in what timeframe? People tend to simplify geopolitics too much because they don't understand the situation, which means they'll always be frustrated.

@dokala
The world is not black and white, right?

@Flyingsaucesir spot on.

If the candy-ass military cannot handle "abrupt", they have no business in the defense business.

@THHA
It's not that they can't handle it. Of course they can handle it. Its that some individuals and groups (like the Kurds, for instance) with be severely inconvenienced. They have been stalwart allies, and now we are leaving them in the lurch. They are probably the best people in the region and now they will be left to twist in the wind.

@dokala
Thank you.

@THHA
What?

@Flyingsaucesir So you are telling me that Americans CARE about the Kurds, when the do not give a shit for providing their own citizens with clean drinking water, the infrastructure in this country, they do not mind supporting dictators in Saudi Arabia, Zionist racists in Israel, they do not give a damn about their government dropping cluster bombs, white phosphorus, using depleted uranium in weapons, but somehow they have this special place in their hearts for the Kurds? It is simply laughable.

@THHA
I'm not saying we care about the Kurds or our other allies either. But we should. Not to the point of neglecting our own people and infrastructure. I think its possible to do right by both. Of course we we would have to do many things differently.

I don’t support unilateral US troops in the Mideast but as usual Trump’s impulsiveness causes enormous harm. Mattis was rightfully concerned about turning our back on our allies and breaking our promises which for a Trump is just business as usual. It’s funny that the guy they call Maddog was the last remaining voice of reason in this administration.

I agree that invading Syria was a mistake and Afghanistan has been a failure. But impulsively running out is like accidentally setting your neighbor's house on fire, realizing your error, and walking away.

I am also concerned with the president's intentions of doing so this way. I'm very skeptical his intentions are anything beyond personal gain. [washingtonpost.com]

Shorter version: I believe in standing strong with our allies and standing up to despots and dictators. But you don’t and that’s cool. I’m outta here.

Standing up against despots and dictators? Not sure where you get that . . . The US has been standing FOR dictators. Saudi Arabia is no democracy. Israel is a racist, apartheid state. The only so-called "dictators" that exist for the US government are the people who stand in their way, and that does not mean in any way shape or form that they are true dictators, they are framed for the most part, it is a very common, extremely common practice in Washington to simply paint someone as a dictator when they oppose the US in any way. And the sheep buy into it every time. So, this guy was a "dictator"? What a lie.

@THHA I don't know if you're a paid troll or just another loudmouthed jerk but I've seen enough of your posts to know you have nothing useful to contribute to any discussion. So consider yourself blocked.

If the candy-ass military cannot handle "abrupt", they have no business in the defense business.

@Buxx
And the fire-setting metaphor is closer to the truth than most people realize. The Syrian conflict was in part brought about by a severe drought. Climate scientists think that it was at least in part by anthropomorphic climate change. Throughout the 20th century the USA was BY FAR the greatest emitter of greenhouse gases. So yeah, we sort of did light their ? on?.

The Syrian conflict was thought of, planned, and started by the good old US of A, none other, climate had nothing to do with it. [politico.com]

No matter which type of president we get it seems like there is always a conversation in some back room where he gets instructed that the wars will continue so we can sell weapons and if you don't play ball I would suggest you rewatch the Zapruder film again.

We should never have been there in the first place, just as our occupation in other countries was questionable. That said, I don't believe Trump was acting for the betterment of anyone but himself. He is grabbing at straws before the hatchet comes down on his head. He did this without consulting those who know better the whole situation there and can predict what will actually happen. He's not exactly known for predicting possible future results from his actions. It's much more complicated than "let's just pull out." His knee jerk actions may cause more trouble than they help.

It wasn't for no reason. ISIS was decapitating western journalists (among many others) and there was general consensus that they need to he stopped. Hence the coalition that went in and did the job. However, things got really ugly when Putin started backing Assad with air power against civilian populations in Aleppo and elsewhere, effectively negating any chance that there will ever be anything in Syria other than extremism of one form or another.
