This government shutdown for the funding of a wall is a tad bit ridiculous... It's painful knowing there's people being forced to work without pay.
We really need some competent experts to examine the border and propose a plan which will give us the maximum protection for the lowest cost. A wall may be necessary in some areas, a barbed wire fence in other areas, and just sensors in other areas and perhaps in desert areas nothing at all. On TV today I heard that there are farmers and ranchers that will be cut off from the Rio Grande river if we build a wall. Water from the river is vital for their enterprise.
There is also an environmental impact on animals that need to migrate or roam to feed...I agree that varying ways could be utilized depending on the area, but the bigger issue seems to be a moral one...what the wall represents in contrast to the statue of liberty on Ellis Island is a bigger problem that has to be overcome...
Excellent comment....we are a nation of immigrants. Immigrants revitalize every generation with fresh ideas and fervor to be successful. It seems cruel and foolish to close the door to our great country. @thinktwice
@nicknotes The fresh faces of Congress speak to the change that will bolster the future...I don't know about you, but I am getting weary of politics and just want to retire in peace...ha ha ha
I miss the quiet days of President Obama. Now everyday there is "BREAKING NEWS". Trump is the cause of all the raucous clamor. @thinktwice
@nicknotes But it was in this quiet that we assumed that people had evolved and fell asleep at the wheel...I don't want to fall asleep and let ignorance and hatred win...I miss his demeanor and vocabulary...hearing him speak was like listening to a lovely poem...sigh...
I certainly miss Obama....@thinktwice
US federal government workers enjoy high pay, extravagant fringe benefits, and job security that cannot be found in the private sector of the economy. They also are allowed to resign their employment if they want to, but so far no one is reported to be doing so. These occasional politically motivated government shutdowns (21 in the past 42 years) seem to be the only negative in their employment situation.
It was hard to hear 45 say without pause that he was willing to let it go on for months even years. He didn’t give a single thought to those people. At the same time his admin all got $10,000 raises.
I never want to hear him talk about safety and security again when it’s the TSA workers who are not getting paid.
@Gooniesnvrdie the less agents there are means longer waits for everyone. Some security is better than no security. These people don’t make a lot of money to start with. To expect them to work without pay is shameful.
@Biptu I happen to like the Services provided by the TSA, FDA.. there’s something about not getting salmonella that I enjoy.
The TSA workers at our airport are awesome...they are paid a decent salary for our area and seem to like their job. I even had one offer to take an unallowed item to my place of business on her way home. They are our neighbors, our children, our community...and to see them struggle is just horrible.
As a CPA, I have also had good experiences working with the IRS agents...many could make more working in private but like the benefits and conditions better with the government. I almost went to work for them, but I could not get into the bureaucracy...
It's okay... Seriously.... Mr. Trump said that they are all behind him!
(throws up in mouth)
@Gooniesnvrdie never happen
It is more than a 'tad' and it is not just ridiculous it's immoral. It demonstrates that the Elites don't give a shit about workers, people who struggle to keep food on the table and their bills paid. Using the lives of people, who have absolutely nothing to do with the Wall, as a bargaining chip is immoral.
