Keurig or French Press? I've used a French Press about 5 years now and recently purchased a (very small and rather inexpensive) Keurig. My plans were to only use the Keurig occasionally but can't stop using that damn thing! Anyone having that same problem?

I use my Bunn coffee maker at home during the weekday and a Keurig (with a plastic fillable pod) at work...I do like using the French Press on the weekends when time is more leisurely. Thinking of buying a Nesspresso but can't get over that it is made by Nestle, a company I don't support. I kinda love coffee...

The Bunn is a good go-to item for sure, though I've never heard of the Nesspresso. Yeah, the company relation would rule that one out.
Sorry, but in my opinion, Keurig makes a lame cup of coffee. Only auto drip or instant are worse. I am not sure why.
I use French press (and a hand crank burr grinder) when I have the time and can savor a cup at my leisure. Nothing (so far) has beat it.
For those times when I do not have time for the press, I use an old Senseo machine. Same convenience as Keurig, but a TON better flavor ( if you like a French cup or prefer something like espresso) and the pods are made from filter material, and so are more eco friendly. If acquiring premade pods is challenging (I order from Amazon), self-filled EvoPods work and are multi-use.

Never heard of the Senseo, but I just read about it and few comments after reading your comment. Looks like a viable option to Keurig, though the comments are good, but mixed (at Amazon) about the newer ones lacking a couple of things. But, others are completely sold on it. I'll have to keep this in mind. Thank you!
I bought a Keurig a few years ago and used it once. Nothing beats making an entire pot at a time.

The keurig is just so easy to use and quick. I had to get rid of mine to stop myself. Now if I want caffeine I usually break out one of my moka pots.

I had a Keurig for years, very convenient but terrible for the environment. When I heard the inventor regretted ever inventing it because of the ecological impact of the discarded plastic cups, I switched to a French press about a year ago. It's a little more work, but much better for Mother Earth.

I'm starting to use the Keurig reusable filter. A bit pricy at first but I don't have other options for my model.
@mykhael Yeah, I had one of those reusable filters too. It sort of defeated the convenience which is why I was using it to begin with, and I wasn't that crazy about the quality of the brew I was getting. If you are satisfied with making and drinking your cup of joe that way, it certainly is a better ethical choice. Happy java to you.
When I'm in England at my mum's, she has a French Press that she keeps in a cupboard just for me...LOL Guess which one.... hahahaha

Keurig is an environmental disaster. The guy who developed the Keurig says he regrets putting it out there. Stop the plastic. It's not getting recycled the way people think. Excuse the rant..been worrying about plastic since the later 70's.
I use a cheap drip brew with unbleached filters and filtered water. I like good coffee so the type you use is most important and at recommended brew strength. Kosher salt for bitterness. I also use a french press when I am willing to be patient..no garbage with that.

I'm trying the reusable one from Keurig. So far, so good.
I have a $12 coffee maker that the heater quit working on so I chop the cord off now I use my Pyrex measuring cup and I microwave 2 cups of water until it's nuclear and then I just pour it right directly into the coffee holder and it makes the best cup of coffee in the world

No, ten dollar black and decker drip with washable screen. Works fine for me, but I don't go to Starbucks either.

@Veteran229 I got a Keurig one that works with my model (its a new narrower model) ...it seems to work fine, but a bit pricey.
French press is the best. Coffee as dark or light as you want. Simple and easy.

Mr Coffee brewed coffee. Because I don’t have time to wait for each cup of coffee.
I also use unbleached, biodegradable filters and compost the used filters/grounds
Keurigs are awful in their use of plastic KCups. So much plastic.....

K-cups are great if you just want one cup, but not as tasty as French press or pour-overs. And Yes, awful use of non-recyclable plastic. I use the compostable k-cups from San Francisco Bay [gourmet-coffee.com]
@Veteran229 I think this coffee maker is standard military issue and you have to drink 1 pot of coffee by 9 am and the second pot by noon

@Veteran229 I have no idea....even if it can be recycled.....I know that people are lazy and don't recycle even a fraction of the plastic they use. It's easier just to chuck it into the bin and send it to a landfill. That's cool that you work in recycling. I wish it were more widespread. I drive my glass/plastic 50 miles to recycle it in another town because it's not an option in my town of almost 100K people.

The amount of K-Cups trashed into landfills as of today could wrap around the planet more than 10 times!

I bought a Cuisinart dual function, regular 12 cup pot on one side and a Keurig on the other. I did this for my sister who visits regularly who likes her decaf coffee at night and only drinks one cup after dinner.
I was a bit of a coffee snob who likes fresh ground coffee daily but thought it my duty to try to find the tastiest coffee for my guests. I tried the regular Donut Shop coffee and was hooked. I still make my fresh ground on occasion but I have turned into a keurig whore.

Keurig has Too many choices! How do you find the kind of roast flavor, strength you like? I get tired just looking at the packed shelves!

Yes, it can be a daunting experience going down the coffee aisle. I'm starting out by just picking one or two and going with it. I'm not much though of a flavored coffee person. Just a smooth, dark roast is good for me, so it's not too much trouble. I'm a bore when it comes to coffee!
