Am I the only one who wants to punch people in the face when they say, “I live in a spiritual realm?”
#religion #brainwashed
I voted no because we don't know it all. There is no telling if she or he is better than you in many other respects. We believe stupid things just like they do. We just don't know it. Nobody has the sole right to the truth, morality and the sense of right and wrong. A lot of wrongs of yesterday have been accepted today while many things we were told as good for us are now not so any longer.
The sense of right and wrong and also of morality are NOT universal. Both depend on the society and culture you live in. Life is about learning and picking the best from everything and everybody and not knit picking faults.
There is no need to punch anyone unless he or she is punching you.
She said she Wanted to punch them, not that she actually did...Yuge difference!
@AnneWimsey
No it is not a huge difference. Thinking and talking about is the mindset that I am talking about. If she punched, Law and Order would take care of it. I did not need to comment.
Thinking about punching somebody, thinking about raping somebody, thinking about hurting somebody are as bad as doing it. We don't tell kids... it is ok to think and imagine punching somebody but don't do it. Do we?
I knew this. That is why I said the sense of right and wrong is different for different people.
This is true, and I don’t punch them in the face, even though that statement rattles my brain and makes me want to, but the issue that I have with the statement is that I am finding people are using it almost as an excuse. I was once an apostolic Pentecostal Christian, so I get it when you say you live in a spiritual realm, but when your saying it in response, us having a conversation about child hunger, and climate change, I have a problem with that. I get your Christian and you believe that the hard times that we are facing now are “the beginning of the Apocalypse”, but that does not mean we can just sit back and watch things happen that we can change. So I need them to come from their spiritual realm, and help make this earth a better place for all of us!
@FinallyFreed
We have different beliefs but that does not mean we have to argue. Is anyone imposing his or her beliefs on you? Why do you want them to come out of their spiritual realm? Maybe it works for them. They are entitled to make decisions about how they want to lead their lives. Is anybody asking you to not believe in what you are believing in? Please know no one has to believe as you want him or her to. Climate change is controversial and you are entitled to only your opinion, not to theirs.
We can let people believe what they want and we can believe in what we want. No two people will agree on even most.
@St-Sinner People impose their beliefs on me all the time! Saying what they believe is right and how I need to follow Christ. Laying hands on me a praying for me when I don’t want them too. Oh yea all to often. No, people don’t have to argue, but a lot of the time they do because they believe they are right, and if they didn’t believe they were right they wouldn’t have that particular belief. If living in your spiritual realm works for you it’s fine with me, and some may think climate change is controversial, but the fact is that it is happening, and regardless of our belief system we can do something about it. So you can live in a spiritual realm if you want to, but the fact remains that we ALL live on earth. But my hope is that we all can together to make change; in or out of their “spiritual realm”. And even though two people don’t agree most, you can still agree to disagree, but find some common ground.
@FinallyFreed
This is how I see this:
If your outlook serves you well, you can apply it to life.
@St-Sinner ohferpetessake, thinking and doing are Not the same. Your mind just puts up thoughts 24/7, you can dismiss the thoughts, act on them, or not. Example: See a sexy gal swinging down the street, the cave-man inside wants to leap. But you, like all decent men, get an immediate grip upon yourself's inner urges. There is a Huge difference! And in fact verbalizing a desire, such as "punching" somebody, usually serves to diffuse that urge.
I’ve honestly never had anyone say that. I’d probably laugh uncontrollably
Be grateful you haven’t heard it. I understand where their coming from, because I use to be one of them, but it still makes me put my hand on my forehead and say why; now that I’m on the other side.
I would say that I "dwell in the hall of the mountain king".
They may very well think you are saying the same thing (if they are not musically gifted)
I got in an argument recently on another site with someone who said Humans were "Too low to play with technology" and "Without a connection to spirit we can not grow"
I told them they were being vague and hypocritical, they didn't take the criticism well.
I can't say anyone has made that statement to me, at least not since time out of mind.
What is the context?
And what do racoons have to do with it?
Lol I’m not talking about raccoons, I use the term loosely. It has many different meaning, and young people (typically young people of color) use it as slang for foolish.
@NoPlanetB Yes it used to be a derogatory term, but now in Ebonics, it means foolish, stupid, or sell out. Think of it like this, the “n” word used to be derogatory, but now in Ebonics we have given it a new meaning, friend. But I think I’m gonna change it since now I’m realizing people on here don’t know that.
I'd ask them to explain what that means because I bet it'd be hysterical.
Also, this is officially my 1000th comment.
Congratulations on you 1000th comment
I personally would rather tie them down and pull out their nose hairs one-by-one with a pair of tweezers.
Haha!!! WOW
That phrase or equivalent would not cause any desire for violence, but I might look at the person like he/she is an idiot or walk away unless it's at work, in which case it would be a vague empty expression followed by bringing up a work related matter.
Depends...
Some people say this because they are privileged to the point of not having to bother with practical problems (or have someone that is taking care of those).
But I see being spiritual even outside supernatural stuff by being humane and be able to connect, relate and take care of people more than things.
I’m sure you’re not the only one, but I also don’t feel like punching anyone in the face for anything really.
You are the only species who can have a violent reaction to a metaphor... because you are a spirited species. (please don't punch me!) All humans live in a spiritual realm, metaphorically speaking. It is arguably the main difference between our species and all the others, including raccoons, for example. (I know, I know.)
Only sometimes when they INSIST upon telling me, with monotonous and seemingly endless repetition, exactly how wonderful, etc, etc, this miraculous change in their life has been and keep urging me, relentlessly, to try it for myself.
But, having said that, my self-restraint is so high I ALWAYS resist the urge anyway.
Control your anger, just because people are brainwashed or stupid and ask moronic questions is no reason for violence, let the thinking non believers show them how to behave.
I always control my anger, and I have never been in a fight, but the thought still crosses my every now and then.
@FinallyFreed if you want to punch someone that bad, that's anger that may give you an ulcer, try laughing or at least smiling instead at their stupidity.
@Mofo1953 no ulcers here! I usual just smile and say good luck with that as I walk away.
@FinallyFreed good for you!!!
@Mofo1953 thanks. I’m not a violent person
@FinallyFreed just violent thoughts.
I might say, "I feel sorry for you," but I don't want to punch them in the face.
Why would anyone want to punch anyone in the face for any reason? What does violence against another person accomplish, especially since there was no violence against you?
@Donotbelieve I agree!
I wouldn’t actually punch someone in the face!
@Donotbelieve How people come about these violent tendencies? Violence never enters my mind in any way. I strive to:
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Do nothing to anyone that you would not want done to you.
Do or cause no harm.
Thank you guys for all of your input and different views!!!
Confusing. Anybody checking Yes!! Would be saying yes, you are the only one.
Depending on definitions, we do indeed live in a spiritual realm.
Sir Arthur Eddington:
The universe is of the nature of a thought or sensation in a universal Mind... To put the conclusion crudely — the stuff of the world is mind-stuff.
We are no longer tempted to condemn the spiritual aspects of our nature as illusory because of their lack of concreteness.
The scientific answer is relevant so far as concerns the sense-impressions... For the rest the human spirit must turn to the unseen world to which it itself belongs.
well ... maybe I did until I reached my 30's. That's a few years after my pre-frontal cortex actually controlled my thoughts vice the limbic systems' emotionality. Humans have a tendency to place anything unknown in the realms of the mystical or spiritual. So when confronted with the unknown they are merely saying that they tend towards optimism vice pessimism. Having faith in the natural yin and yang of the universe is just an issue of nature built from experience. It's scientific actually. Ask the vedantists and the upanishads.
I have had that experience and it came during a part of my life that I am not too proud of! The gist is I extricated myself from a situation and was told by someone something very similar.
And yes. I did want to punch them in the face, even if metaphorically as they were being both manipulative and condescending.
We all have spirit. I don't think that being told you live in a spiritual realm is such a bad thing. It's better than what ever fairy tale they are living in.
That’s the fairytale
