All throughout history, whenever something bad happened, a famine, a plague, an earthquake... people would assume that it happened because god was displeased. So they would search for the reason that god became upset and inevitably, they would find scapegoats. Those who worshiped differently, incorrectly, or not at all would get the blame. They would assume that these religiously challenged people were the ones who caused gods anger and so they would be purged and repressed.

They are threatened by us because they perceive us arrogant sinners who are purposefully provoking gods anger and sometimes his retribution destroys not just the sinners that brought it about but whole communities including pious bystanders who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. So to avoid this, they want to convert everyone and force us all to live by the dogmatic rules of their religion.

It's messed up but god works in mysterious ways, they say.

Maybe because they are really closet agnostics.

I think that deep down they all know it is BS. I read once of a believer killing his friend who was an atheist. To me this smacks of "how dare you tell me that my parents and grandparents were wrong about god." Non-belief upsets the apple cart. I want to believe.

I was once on another site where the girl in question always thought it would be so nice if a god existed just like it said in the bible. She also wanted so badly to be married. When she quit the site she admitted she had went back to religion again and was marrying a believe.

As for validity of Genesis I am always amazed that god wanted to destroy the people because of sin. What sort of sin is not stated but everyone thinks it was sexual. How could this be when god wanted to use incest to populate the earth - TWICE. This gets worse when apologists try to use the timeframe allowed to explain it was not incest and yet it is because of sin that we do not live so long today.

Not to defend them, but they think atheists (and Agnostics, and Hindus, etc.) lead souls to Satan and Hell.

because a part of them deep down inside there mind somewhere they know the truth and its all bullshit. christians know if people (atheists, agnostics) strat backing up science they know they will be proven wrong. I just ignore most christians and there babble. cuz that it is, bullshit and babble.

Which came first man or animal? Which did God make first? According to Genesis chapter 1, animals were made first....then man. Animals were made at Genesis 1:20-25, ....then man was made at Genesis 1:26-27 But according to Genesis chapter 2, Man was made first, and then animals were made. Man was made at Genesis 2:7 and then animals at Genesis 2:19 Who's ignorant? Whoever wrote Genesis and couldn't get his story straight....or those that believe this fable?

The Bible stories are so ridiculous that most Christians have doubts which they hide. They fear they may be following a fraud but yet are fearful that the Jesus story might just be true. They suffer from Cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding conflicting ideas simultaneously. The theory of cognitive dissonance proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance.

They are not "100% sure". At some level they understand the weakness of their position, as it is based on nothing more than a blind "leap of faith". They feel secure only when 100% of the people around them participate in the same fiction; this becomes their pseudo-evidence (as one believer once told me, millions of people can't all be wrong).

So in light of this, it's easy to see why an atheist represents a huge threat. This is someone who has broken the taboo and openly laughs at it, whether explicitly or implicitly.

Tellingly, atheists are generally dealt with by demonizing them. Ad hominem attacks such as, they are motivated by hatred toward god or toward religion or toward believers; they seek free license to live in debauchery; they are devious, conniving liars, and on and on in that vein. But you'll NEVER, EVER hear them say that atheists have considered reasons for their lack of belief. Even bad ones. Because believers have no real ideas to talk about or debate.

If atheists really had an untenable reason for not forming affirmative beliefs about any deities, believers could simply and calmly list their allegedly superior arguments for affirmative belief. But they can't, so they simply otherize and assault their opponents.

It's the inner part of the human brain that developed eons ago that's agreeing with the facts, for that's what kept it alive, yet the newer part of the brain is rejecting those same facts which just pisses them off even more internally.
Or they're just being obstinate.

People are not as rational as they claim. That's a good example of human irrational behaviour. Everything that deviates from the norm you guide yourself by is considered as a threat or strange.

It isnt something i have come across much here in the uk. I know JW will run away and hide from me if the figure out i am a former JW as I am now controlled by satan. Out nside of that though its not something i have personaly experianced.

The pattern with xians is they feel terrorized by alleged bad gawds called demons devils hobgoblins evil spirits et al.....they are forced to believe all that crap and are afraid to doubt any of it for burning in an alleged hell forever....Genesis has a talking snake tricking Ewe into eating fruit with Adham
....believing this insanity is equal to fear of nudity.....hiding pubic hair and nipples is the further deep seated guilt about the natural beauty of humanity as all other animals are evolved attractive to their mates.....when Atheists are encountered by xians the xians are conditioned in TRANSFERENCE......blaming the Atheists for xian thoughts good or bad true or false funny or sober....stay away from xians especially @ xmas

Lying for Jesus is an integral part of witnessing, and knowing that the entire flock are hypocrites presents a special cognitive dissonance. Part of this is the admission that their belief could be wrong and that they've wasted their life believing a fat lie. That science disposes of Christianity as a corollary of evolution remains a powerful argument by authority; an argument that has never been scratched by Christian Creationism. So, it is deep insecurity from living a lie. For them, bumping up against real truth is like tasting a foul poison and it triggers instant depression.

As evolution disproves Genesis, the whole need for a sacrificial human to atone for Adam's Original Sin becomes idiocy. Not that anyone performs animal or human sacrifices anymore... which again validates the absurdity of the lamb-of-god crucifixion.

Genesis gives some type of explanation that is plausible enought for people that are not concerned about exact correctness when nothing has been sufficiently established to replace what they currently have avaliable in writting.

Is there a copy of the Big Bang myth in every motel room next to a gideons placed bible? Is there detailed evolutionary explanation of how this first single celled organ theoretically developed around a deep sea thermal vent that then finally started replicating itself and from there began attaching itself replicated to itself to form multi celled organisms and so on and so forth. Is this avaliable in every motel room?

For a person that does not know how to read, but goes to a weekly meeting and someone reads the Genesis account it appeases that person. For wheither it is Genesis account or big bang myth, how does either change the fact that illiterate person would spend the next 6 days working for a dollar just to get by and have at least little food for family.

After years of brain washing, it's to much a shock to the system. Not everyone can break away from the bs like everyone here. People can be controled by fear. Brave people engage in rational and break away from the bs of religion. Like I did nearly 2 years ago. I do wish it 2 decades though.

Because maybe they aren't that sure themselves. They are faced with the same lack of proof we are. When they see people who are very confident in their own non-belief. I think it makes them have some doubt as to their own beliefs. Blind faith is not as easy as it sounds for someone with a certain level of intelligence. IMO

For the same reason that some atheists become upset if you bring up metaphysical ideas: stubborn adherence to ones precious world view—in other words, thinking that your opinions are the only correct ones. It’s egotism born of insecurity and fear.

Because they know they are not sure of facts, they just embrace the faith closing their eyes...

In my years as an Atheist I have found that the majority of Faithfools often dread the idea that we espouse re- their Sky Daddy has never existed.
They also, imho, FEAR anything/anyone who does not conform to their ways/ideologies simply because they/we are DIFFERENT.
I see it as a kind of thing where the 'domesticated' sheep look at those animals who are running and living free are a threat of sorts to their 'sedated' life-styles.

I suppose their faith fails them when it comes to reality.
