Do you believe that there is life after death
I believe other people will continue to live after I am dead. In as much as we all share a common biological identity and heritage, "we" will continue to live after I'm dead.
I think we live on in other people's memories but no I do not think we continue to be conscious after we die. I think that is ok. I would rather people remember me as a good person anyway. The only point to be conscious after death is to either learn or be able to make actions occur in some fashion.
Yes
Based on what?
@DangerDave : It is not only that I see no reason to think there is an afterlife, in which my consciousness somehow continues on, I have no desire to have such an afterlife.
@DangerDave Only after reading your profile would I give you the answer you requested. I have had so many experiences that I can safely say I know there is more to this existence than is generally thought. My view of "reality" is broader than it was when I first started this life. All these people who demand proof or evidence cannot possibly attain it or even know what that is. I understood Wayne Dyer when he said "When you believe it, you will see it." You have to be open. When you are closed minded, the doors are closed. My agnosticism is simply that I am open and have done away with preconceived notions. We can and should think for ourselves; do our own exploring because the revelations are meant for only you. To prove anything to others is not what this is about.
I believe in a Supreme Being but I can't define it. It isn't Jesus, or Yahweh, or Allah. It doesn't care if I believe or not. As a rational being I do have the evidence in the trees, in the beauty of the world, in myself and in my own gifts which I devote to making the most of and using it for whatever universal benefit is open to me. For me to abuse my health or to abuse the health of the planet is a sacrilege. For that shows lack of appreciation. Then there is no humility, only arrogance which has a price. I do believe in "cause and effect."
It so happens that I have a student with special gifts. She has brought me two dear departed ones. I learned that my father attended all my performances and especially loved my "purple dress." That dress is unique and my student knew nothing about it. Whether we believe or not is not the issue. Everyone has a choice as to what little world they wish to explore. What matters is that we make the most of our time and space while here...and keep growing.
@DangerDave Thank you for your reply. In sending that to you I became vulnerable. So I appreciate it. And yes, I agree with you.
@DangerDave : I guess I don't consider anecdotes as evidence. No one has returned from full brain death.
@Joanne As I said: It's not about convincing anyone else. I don't care what others believe. (That doesn't mean I don't care about them.)I just am comfortable in my own revelations and hold them sacred. I have my journey and you have yours, which I respect.
@think-beyond : I don't have a problem with what anyone believes. And, in the end, of course, none of us knows for sure. But if one claims "evidence" of something, I think it should be clarified what that evidence is and presented.
No. I believe you go to sleep and never wake up again.
There isn't. Been there done that twice.
@Wisterious I've died twice. Full flatline. You just stop.
There is no life after death, there is existence though. Matter and energy transform but are not destroyed.
When we die, we simply give back our matter and our energy to the universe.
Years ago , I had a neighbor , whom I seldom spoke with , who told me he had died in hospital , while being treated . He was resesitated . He said he saw , "the light at the end of the tunnel ," shutting down . But he no longer fears death . Only person I've ever spoken with , who's actually been there .
In a word, "No", not in any significant way like believers think we live on. I've heard that some people who worship tech are planning to live forever, in some sense, by having their brains hardwired to computers before they die so they can experience " the singularity". What a creepy concept...
If I were to die right now, and you didn't, up to the point of my death, I would believe you would still have life after I die. What's after my, natural body death, for all I care, my cognition capability will be in non-existance with the non-existent flying spaghetti monster sky God once and forever.
