Okay, so some may find me as being somewhat pedantic here but,
Given that Herakles(Hercules) was the mythological son of Zeus and a human woman then he was ONLY classed as being a Demi-God in mythology
Alexander the Great was also proclaimed to be, by his Mother, the son of Zeus and as such was often proclaimed to be ONLY a Demi-God.
Then what I am asking is this.
Since this Biblical Jesus was also proclaimed to be the son of God, Jehovah/Yahweh/Allah, etc, etc, and a mere mortal human woman then WHY is he not so proclaimed as being merely a Demi-God when the Christians so proclaim him to be a GOD?

I guess, when all is said and done, we are still left with “ why does it matter?”

It does not in truth but it is something to ponder upon for those wish to do so.

An interesting point.

If a mixed race couple , one black one white,have a child it is always classed as being black. Perhaps it is the same with gods. Even a trace of a god in your genes is qualification.

Then , by your reasoning/logic, since we are all, supposedly, the Children of God then we MUST be Demi-Gods then.

I don't wish to belabour the point but Heracles the greatest of the hellenic chthonic heros and theos was a mythical being and as such can't light a candle to the real stuff up in heaven.

Don't you start on Mary n stuff n whether or not jc had any older half-brothers and half-sisters uno brethren and sistren.

Why not, since the religious also claim that James was the older Brother of Jeebus Chrust which, to my mind, would either mean that Joseph was originally a Widower OR Little Virginal Mary had been around the block, so to speak, at least once before J.C. came along, ergo NO longer a Virgin.
Perhaps Mary went to see a Hermit and got herself Hermitically re-sealed....LOL.

Uuuummmm, he declared Himself to be a gawd, a classic sign of schizophrenia, right age for it too.

I'd diagnose both Schizophrenia, Delusions of Grandeur ( known lately in many circles these days as the D.J. T. Disorder #45), Bi-Polar Disorder with erratic episodes of a Severe Psychoses mixed in.
But hey, what would I know since I'm only a Qualified Psychologist?

@Triphid and I thought you just played one on tv

@Canndue Now, I COULD take that as an insult since I HAVE been a Counsellor and Psychologist for well over 20 years now specializing in Child and Youth Crises.
And still do Counselling these days even though it IS on a complete Pro Bono and Gratis basis now.

@Triphid no disrespect intended, just a play on the old joke. Suspect we could use an army with your skills over the next couple of years.

@Canndue Going on, imo, the penchant that Americans seem to have for getting Psychiatric Counselling at the mere drop of a hat I'd hazard to say bthat you already have such an Army ready willing and able.

But humans and demi-gods could become gods by being granted a sip of ambrosia. This makes the distinction rather minuscule.

Finally, someone who can spell minuscule however moot.

@waitingforgodo Yeah I can also spell both Miniscule and Microscopic as well.
How's that?

@Triphid I dunno i'm ineluctably ineffably ineducable

@waitingforgodo What, yer starting to sound more and more like a Demented Drongo here Snowball?
BEFORE you can SPEAK 'Strine you gotta learn to be Austrinian.

@Triphid I'm multi-lingual ino astrayan and I have some familiarity with language.

@waitingforgodo It's not astrayan ya mug, it's 'Strine.

Just for the minuscule entertainment value;

"Minuscule derives from the Latin adjective minusculus, which means "rather small." The "minuscule" spelling is consistent with the word's etymology, but since the 19th century, people have also been spelling it "miniscule," perhaps because they associate it with the combining form mini- and words such as minimal and minimum."

@Normanbites Friend, IF one were to check the Dictionary OR a Search Engine such as Google, for example, one would discover that it IS actually spelled as MINSCULE and NOT Minuscule.

@Triphid Friend, perhaps you should take your own advice. Sorry, not sorry!

@Normanbites @Normanbites,
MINISCULE = very small, tiny, minute,
Minuscule, = very small, tiny, minute,
Ergo, same meaning, different spelling depending upon whether one is using English English or Americanized English.
And since I was born, raised and Educated in Australia WHERE we used English English and NOT Americanized English I use the the spelling as I was taught.

@Triphid Sorry to be the one that has to inform you, but miniscule is the "Americanized" version of the word.

It seems you've managed to be tainted by Yanks after all!!

@Normanbites Thank you, I stand corrected .
However, as may understand, that a 5.30 AM the brain is not always up to speed at times.

@Triphid You are very welcome. As it happens, I hold Aussies in much higher esteem in my mind than Yanks, though I be one, unfortunately. And you have done nothing to change that perspective. I hope you have a great day.

@Normanbites FYI, I AM an Aussie born, bred and Raised in Australia mate.
As do you, I also have little time/respect for the numerous OTT style Seppos ( Yanks) thatseem to infest this world, I do have respect for the many and numerous Americans I have met and gotten to know on this Site that are most definitely NOT the OTT type of Seppos.
And have a Good'un as well Mate.

The believers tailor their fiction to suit themselves.
They also tend to bend their mythology to suit their agendas at any given moment.

Nice job laying out the question.

This is a good question. Keep in mind that the genealogy of Jesus is given through Joseph and slightly different in one gospel. Preachers claim that was through Mary, but genealogy is only given through the male line. This seems to be an indication that Jesus is the son of Joseph and not a god.

We will have none of that logic in here!

Hard cheese, I've already done it....LOL.
