I think it's a great idea

I love it. When I was a kid I always wanted to join boy scouts. I'd help my cousin with his pinewood derby car, I'd race, help set up equipment.

However I was only allowed to join girl scouts, which I also liked, but quite frankly I was more interested in building cars than baking cakes.

I was a Boy Scout and I also recall Explorer Scouts which included boys and girls just a little older. I don't see anything wrong with this, just starting a little younger.

Great idea. I think it is long overdue. It is time to rid ourselves of ALL outdated institutions and beliefs.

I say it's about time. I never joined Girl Scouts/Guides/whatever because it seemed pointless. Why did the boys get to learn survival skills and such and the girls didn't? Now girls can learn useful things, too.

As a guy who did his turn at "scoutmaster" decades ago, I think the name change is silly. And letting girls into "boyscouts" is just asking for TROUBLE.

So let see how this can go all wrong.
Your suggesting a group of pre teen sleep together in the same tents that arent related.
I can see a few if them can end up.pregnant.

Bring all the scouts together.

Or let the boys join the Guides?

I question the true motive behind such a change in policy...

My granddaughter loves science and math, wanted to play football but was forced to be a cheerleader instead.

She can't sew for shit, cooking is of no interest so I think she will probably want to join if it is available here.

Probably not since this is a backward hell hole but if it is available and she wants to join, I will happily drive her.

From what I have read the Girl Scouts are more progressive in their views. The Boy Scouts are trying to appeal to social conservatives who don't want their daughters exposed to feminism.

Only question I have is why they didn’t merge with Girl Scouts? All? public schools are co-ed now, and it is matter of time Scouts become co-ed.

I'm fine with it. It should be a club for all children. There shouldn't be any exclusion based on race, gender, sexuality, culture, religion, economic status, etc

Not odd at all. We are equal as humans. We are not equivalent. Scouting should be gender segregated with intermittent supervised get togethers. Boys bully girls & girls are intimidated. Thusly my dad taught me how to throw a mean smack down. But most girls do not get this training.

Sounds fine to me. There were no boy scout programs around where I grew up but did have a couple of sons that were in the cub scouts.

Technically, IIRC the "Boy Scouts haven't changed that name (they're still the Boy Scouts), but a portion or program within the boy scouts have changed their name to Scouts BSA:

They already have their group, called the Girl Scouts. If the Girl Scouts are not butch enough, then they need to redefine their programs to accommodate females who care less about sewing and cooking. Would a Boy Scout want to join the Girl Scouts? Overnight camping trips? Separate bathrooms. Yikes!

As an ex BOY Scout(Eagle Scout, mind you!)...I’m totally against the name change AND allowing girls to join! Don’t they have GIRL SCOUTS?!! Come on, I believe equality is great, but there has to be some “private” clubs!

Despite the name change, don't they still believe that the only way to moral character is to believe in god? In other words, aren't they still anti-atheist?
