Ayn Rand
Ummmm, what?
IMO she was/is a huge booster, if not inventor, of the current "me first and too bad for everybody else" dismal climate.
@annewimsey500 yep. Terrified by the draconian foot of the big government. She experienced Stalin. Very 1984 & George Orwell. Ultra libertarian. but [newideal.aynrand.org]
Not the "libertarian of today".
Rand was a proponent of unregulated, laissez-faire capitalism; arguably the money behind MAGA.
@Flyingsaucesir Every one for them selves. No help from anyone. An extremist.
@Mooolah Dog-eat-dog
@Mooolah Capitalism is a good economic model but it requires robust regulation. Without regulation it devolves into monopoly and rampant corruption. Republicans want to do away with all regulation,...
@Flyingsaucesir No argument here. I always say socialism balances capitalism & visa versa. The pendulum swings. I only say Ayn Rand as she experienced Stalin who was "1984" personified. She lived under that nightmare. Her response is 180 degrees. Anarchy perhaps?
@Mooolah Rand had some rather selfish beliefs in many areas, however, her stance on abortion was correct and I do agree with her thoughts on abortion. Not so much in other areas though.
Thatcherism and Reaganomics derived directly from a corruption of Rand's Objectivism (in much the same way German Hitlerite National socialism came from a corruption of Friedrich Nietzsche).
Trump/Maga political ideology is likewise a further deliberate corrupted and hyperbolic version of the Thatcherism and Reaganomics of the 1980s.
It seems there is a 35 to 40 year descending cycle of discontent and intellectual corruption.
