Aside from his promotion of top-notch journalism though his hands-off ownership of the Washington Post, I find little else to like about Jeff Bezos. Am I just not trying hard enough?
He began with book delivery. What Amazon has evolved into is nothing short of exemplary.
Yeah, an example of a Guilded Age-like monopoly; a conglomerate that grinds its clients, competitors, and employees into powder.
I admit, I use Amazon frequently. If I had better options...
You know I sort of remember when there was an alternative, I think it was called "going to the shops" or something like it.
How did we ever manage to do that?
@LenHazell53 It was a simpler time.
You can usually find the same kind of stuff on eBay, which is a more federated order-delivery model. You also can find deals on refurbished or used items. The costs are comparable, and you typically deal with individual vendors rather than monolith Bezos. Having said that, I use Amazon too.
@zeuser I used to sell on eBay. The problem there is the turn around time. I usually want it now, not two weeks from now. And getting outbid at the last minute is annoying.
