A suggestion. If you don’t like what a person is posting, just pass it by...
For evil to succeed all it takes is for good people to do nothing. If it is posted in a general site such as politics, or general & hellos, then there is much more latitude than if one posted in a narrow group. I recently learned a lesson by going into a conservative group & launching a diatribe. I realise now I should have posted it in a general group. This experience helped me grow & learn about etiquette. I won't be visiting that group anylonger as they are.....well....challenged, immediately questioning my patriotism which ofcourse means they had no arguement. So in their house I won't. But in a public house I will not permit regressive comments go unchallenged....unless they are ....well.....screwballs.
Silence is acquiescence. Not voting is a vote! Not speaking out against racism, sexism, homophobia and the like is not only allowing it to spread, but agreeing with it!
It's an option.... Usually most of the time we all pass out on lot of particular topics, however it may depend on which mood the person is at the time. Perhaps another could be, if you are going to make a comment, as a minimum be courteous. Decency is always the way to go
A number of posters here have no comprehension of discussion etiquette. Instead of answering, ' well in my opinion' or 'I disagree with that and here's why', they jump right in not realizing posting takes tact. Unfortunately I have a tendency see to strike back at bad responses, so I've started to block members who to me are uncouth, so that I don't fall into that trap.
Hell no, if you don't call bullshit then all you get is more bullshit.
Why give a jerk a free pass?
Whenever I say something controversial, it's a countdown to the arrival of the trolls, so I'm waiting, ready to hit the "block" button as they materialize and start insulting and mocking me.
Then, presto-chango, they're blocked, and there's one less troll to worry about.
Why? Sharing thoughts, ideas, helping one another see things differently, isn't that how we grow? That's why I'm not just passing this one by...
Oh, that's no fun.
Beyond which, if I post something and I have my head up my bum, I want constructive criticism. I don't need to be flamed, as such, but point out to me what I said and how wrong I was, and I'll change my mind. That's what the scientific method and rational thought are all about. That's how we learn.
If we're never challenged, we get a room full of echoes... a bunch of yes-men and women repeating our own opinions back to us. That's how Trump got to be the way he is. (Ba-zinga!)
@Rideauxb LOL! Frustrated alt-rights who converted to atheism, but don't know how to stop trolling.
@Rideauxb There's a difference, though, isn't there? Trolling is disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. What I'm talking about is honest difference of opinion or having a real, logical point to make. If I claim that "because A = B, and B = C, therefore A = C", but in fact my A, B, and C really aren't equal at all, someone should point this out to me. I don't know everything, nor does anyone. We check and balance one another. We keep one another honest.
depends on how much weed I have smoked and how long ago it was that I smoked it.
I agree whole heartedly. or block them ?
Oh no. We must belittle the original poster and show our immaturity. That's how it is done.
