If he had spinal degeneration disease as intimated it is a very painfull condition that only gives you a reprieve when asleep. So i suspect the poor guy commited suicide
... or gotten too drunk
Interesting article- I wouldn’t have guessed leather would last so long. I wonder what they’ll learn when they analyze the plants/moss they found inside the boots?
Under ideal conditions, leather can last a very long time indeed - the Areni-1 shoe, discovered in a cave in Armenia in 2008, is remarkably well-preserved despite being 5500 years old. It looks quite a bit like a modern "minimalist" running shoe design.
