Cool mornings make for slow insects! I doubt I would have been able to get a pic of this robber fly with my phone, otherwise. This is Efferia albibarbis, a great friend to have around. Robber flies are agile predators that feed on nuisance insects ...

This hopper allowed me to stroke him repeatedly - after which I couldn't exile him from my deck plants, let alone toy with the idea of munching those for their high protein source any more. but hey, I'm a snowflaky vegetarian anyway!
