I think all felines are killers! I've seen my darling motherfucker keep a little innocent mouse alive just to play with it endlessly. It would be more humane to just kill it.

Play is important. Once in a while one of the little lizards gets even and grabs a paw and doesn't let go.
When I lived in Washington state our house was at the end of a cull de sac. I was upstairs looking out the windows and watched my neighbor's cat cross the circle, she was carrying some small critter. She'd drop it every few feet, let it run, pounce on it again, knock it around a few times, and pick it up again. As she got closer to the curb there was a storm drain grate, and when she dropped it, it fell down the storm drain. She could not figure out how it got away, and stayed by that grate for quite a while trying to find her victim. I'm sure the little bugger probably drowned. It was very likely a vole or a mouse. It was quite entertaining for me 
To be rude, cats are not human, so to think they have human characteristics would be strange. I do get your point, though.
