This is a statue of Benjamin, the Auckland, Devonport Library cat.
He was a popular member of the staff for many years.
Further details in the below link if you want to know more.
I used to go to the original library building on the same site as a child growing up in Devonport. Miss Kennedy the librarian encouraged my love of books and reading.
There’s another cat statue elsewhere in Devonport, I’ll post a photo and details when I visit it.
I wonder if he cuddled with people as they read their books?
Not sure, appears that he was quite a friendly cat.
He was actually owned by some people in a nearby house, but preferred to hang out at the library.
This article has a picture of the original library building that I used to visit.
