I've seen videos of cats sitting by the door, waiting for their human or other human coming home from a stint in service. Read many stories of military types adopting a kitten, or cat, and then jumping through major hoops to bring them back to the US. I've had a couple of cats be protective of me... cat haters can get stuffed.
