My ex, the jerk, nailed the metal tree stand to a large circle of plywood. Then the tree, a real one, was locked into the stand. We then took fishing line and tied the top of the tree to a plant hook in the ceiling. Most of the ornaments were un breakable, no tinsel, but was still very pretty. Love the smell of a real tree. We always got a local one so they were fresh, very little needle loss and a watering system. Sigh those were the days.
