My Klaus. He's been missing for almost 2 years. I made this video of him a while back and thought I'd share. He was so funny, always exploring. He used to go open the cupboard doors and go back here sometimes. Silly.
I hate to burst the bubbles of the people who posted about missing cats, and I don't say this out of unkindness, but your cats are almost certainly dead. I won't say that people who allow their cats outside don't love them because I used to be one of them. However, for the past seven years or so, I've been a cat rescuer and, knowing what I know now, I wish I could go back in time and smack myself upside the head for ever allowing a cat outside. Allowing cats outside decreases their life expectancy by about 70%
Life expectancy of indoor-only cats: about 16 years
Life expectancy of indoor-outdoor cats: about five years

The most obvious dangers are getting killed by vehicles and predators. Less-known dangers include being taken by abusers, Dog fighters set traps for cats so they can use them to train their puppies how to maul other creatures at an early age. They also play a sick game with cats. They put them into a pen with dogs and bet on which cat is the last to die. This is just one of the appalling things I've learned since becoming a rescuer.
Bottom line: the odds are against any cat who's allowed outside dying of old age.
Gee thanks... ?
Klaus was born outside and lived the first 4 months of his life outside and would have become feral if it wasn't for me. I would have loved to keep him inside but he was a holy terror if he was cooped up for too long. He needed outside time and I couldn't take that away from him. My oldest had been going outside too, and when Klaus went missing he got put on lockdown. He was miserable and showed it by shitting all over my floor. Finally after about a year, I started letting him out again, but only if I was around and not for long and never after dark (Klaus was never out after dark either). The change in him has been remarkable. It's like he's young again. No more shitting on the floor. I'm very aware of the dangers of letting a cat go outside, I was before I even had Klaus. I grew up on a farm, our cats got hit by cars all the time. I would reccomend never pointing this out to someone who's lost a cat ever again. We know. And it hurts to think about it. We don't need reminders. Save it for someone who's thinking about getting a cat.
My Klaus was the best cat ever. He disappeared. I still think about him, hoping his great personality found him a new home. I hope you find him soon.
