We have two cats about the same size but they have a pretty big difference in weight and build
The boy cat has very soft fur is highly flexible and feels pretty light. You hardly hear him when he jumps down from a perch. He is pretty graceful He is always hungry and ears a lot more, but is sleek and thin. He lets you pick him up.
The girl cat has more coarse fur, is compact and very heavy. When she walks you you, it feels like her paws are leaving bruises. Even though the stair are carpeted, you cna hear her steps as she goes downstairs. Shen she jumps down, you hear a big clomp. She is pretty clutzy. She doesnt' eat much, and she isn't fat, but she is very solid. She doesn't like being picked up.
In the photo, the girl is on the left and the boy is on the right. They both love the half walls as places to get attention.
The girls will sometimes see someone starting upstairs and will race to the top and hyop up on a half waylll for attention before they can reach the top of the stairs.
My young cat is very agile and he knows how fast he can run and jump. What gives him a thrill is making noise. Our hallway has some loose floor boards that help him make loud noises when he runs and hits them just right. So he goes back and forth in the hall, running until he's hit all the loose floorboards two or three times. Then I noticed that he's building a rhythm better each time. I'll have to record Zippy's music soon.
I have one who makes you "pay the toll" to get up the stairs. He flops the long way across your path and doesn't budge until he has been petted enough. (Laundry be damned!).
I have a railing on my split level ranch that the cats use as a highway between two spots. Makes me hold my breath. - I absolutely get why your cats love those spots. Excellent perches.

Posted by LaurenIt's my first grand's fifth Gotcha Day and this is her in the arms of my daughter as they drove home.
Posted by LaurenIt would be warmer for us both if he'd get on my lap, but it has to be his idea - though he still likes to stay close.
