Cat was always trying to sit on my keyboard . I had a matched pair filing drawers sitting on top of my desk , so told him , I'd get him a board we could sit across the top of the filing drawer cases for him . I stopped at the local hardware/lumber store before going grocery shopping . As I'm carrying in groceries and the shelf , he was, as usual immediately right there . I laid things down and began putting food in it's proper places . When I got to the shelf , the cat had wrapped his arms around it and wouldn't let go . THey don't talk much , but I swear I think they understand more than they usually let on .

Keen observation is their forte. Such as when you try to put flea repellant drops on them and they see the container. You'll never get near them again.
