i just got back from an eight-hour vet urgent care visit. penny, my 17-year-old, has breast cancer. one of the tumors has burst open and won't stop bleeding. the doc says she has maybe six months to live, and offered to put her down, an offer i firmly declined. she wants to be home with me. i KNOW this. but i am in shock and haven't got the couple grand surgery that would improve her quality of life (but not prognosis) would cost. i am still grieving for golde. i don't know how life with be when the hole golde left in my heart gets bigger when penny isn't here anymore. this year sucks so far.

Last year I lost both my dog and my cat 18 and 17 respectively. They were family. I miss them terribly. I'm so sorry you're going through this. The best you can do is whatever keeps the quality of life and health as much as you can and see they leave feeling loved.

Im sorry for your impending loss. You have a tough decision to make. It won’t be easy but, i hope you can find a balance between what is best for you and for Penny.

i know she wants to be home with family, not just me and richard but her two surviving daughters and her elderly (but younger than she) husband. i have been through this before. i HAD to put woody down; his brain tumor was suppressing his breathing and he was suffocating to death. hardest thing i ever had to do. but the others about whom i had to make such a choice died at home with me and i SAW the quality of life they had. robin PLAYED. she snuggled with her mama and papa and sisters. she wrestled with the dog. i would not deprive her of that. and i will not deprive penny of the time she has left, either.

I am so sorry, I know how much we hurt when our babies hurt.

I'm sorry to hear that. 😨 But 17 years! A good long life!

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
