When I had PussPuss euthenised the very caring vet took about half an hour and a very long tube connected to the syringe so that we had one long final cuddle.

At least you were nice enough to be there when the kitty died. When cats are uthanized (or any other pet) they more than likely know you, and want you to be with them when they take their final breath.
@TheGreatShadow We had just spent over 22 years together. I had difficulty writing the finish of my comment above.

Well there is a good reason not to let them take them to another room out of your sight.
This never occurred to me. They could get the WRONG damn patient. How HORRIBLE.
