So last year we installed a cat door in the sliding screen door, which is at the back of the house. I did this because i got tired of playing "doorman" to the cats.
However, now even if they have access tot he back screen cat door, they prefer to go otu the front door. They will go otu the front door, and in less than 20 minutes come back in through th ecat door and want back out the front door again.
I think they just enjoy weildign power over creatures that are more than 20 times larger than they are.
My last indoor outdoor cat was Kindrie. I left a window open when the weather was tolerable, just enough for her to slip in and out.
Rather than use it, she went two buildings over and meowed at my former roommate and his daughters at work until he followed her over to the house and opened the door for her.
The window got closed after one memorable morning while I was dealing with Lupus nephritis and couldn't walk... and Kindrie had brought half a bird in to decorate the bedroom floor. Had to beg a roommate to remove it.
I do not doubt that in the least! Cats are cats are cats!
My cat would only drink water from a running tap. I got tired of turning the tap on and turning it back off again, so I bought her a cat fountain ... which she uses only because I gave her no access to any other water. Even then, she would make sure I wasn’t around to SEE her using it. She couldn’t have me knowing that I won that particular battle. Actually, I didn’t win. She still hangs out in front of the tap and meows piteously. And I, cat slave that I am, turn it on for her. She doesn’t drink from it. She just sits there and watches the water fall. Like you, I think she just enjoys wielding her power over me.
My two cats each drink their water in a different way. Yes, there is a water bowl downstairs in the kitchen but they shun that. They want their water upstairs in the bathroom sink. Bobby will only drink it from a running tap by putting his hand into the falling water and licking his wet hand. Time consuming, I wait. Zippy will only drink water from my glass if it is freshly filled. I must empty the glass and refill it in his view for him to be satisfied with its freshness. I cannot fool them, and I have to let them both have their turn drinking. I don't remember how they trained me.
Annie also loves to drink from my glass. So now I use cups with lids. I call them my "grownup sippy cups." However, like you, I fill glasses for her from time to time.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
