I keep thinking (hoping) this corona pandemic will lead to good things. If nothing else it seems to be pushing people, world wide, toward a richer sense of community. I hope that will lead to a consensus that we are all humans; residents of the only world we've got. Hopefully, inspite of presidential cheap shots at WHO, the obvious need for global mutual cooperation will strengthen organizations like the UN, The Nonviolent Peace Force, Doctors Without Borders and other organizations working to address global problems like pandemics globally.
It looks like our country is being forced by events to adopt some kind of universal health care. World wide health care would have made the pandemic much less of a problem.
I hope too, that the experience of working together to avert a global catastrophe will be a good dress rehearsal for really addressing Global Warming.
Environmentally, I think this is little more then a very short respite.
It is nice to be able to hear birds instead of distant traffic noise when I hang laundry or be able to bike across streets that are usually too congested to cross.
As for leading to good things. Think we (especially the less wealthy nations) have a lot of this not so nice outcome in the near future. [wsws.org]
