I am always flabbergasted when I read about people in the US who are "thankful" for their troops "keeping them safe" but are quite okay with letting veterans commit suicide at a great scale.

I am always flabbergasted at the word thankful, possibly because of the religious overtones that go with thanking an imaginary old man in the sky for anything good that happens in our lives. We should also stop calling our war departments, departments of national defense. IF all they do is attack then how can they be a defense department?
