Wanted to stop by tonight to say thanks to those who replied to my last post. Today went well, I kept my calorie intake under 1100, a number that has worked so far for me. Will see how it works over some time, since my calorie needs for maintenance have reduced since last year.
As I went about my day today, when I thought about having something to eat I thought it through and choose whether I actually needed to eat something or was just bored or whatever so thought of eating. Then considered what to eat and wrote down everything I ate. This method has always worked for me if I stuck to it and leaves me room to eat anything I really want as as I limit the amount.
I will add that what prompted me to make good choices today was knowing that I had made myself accountable to this group. It's the first time in 6 months that I have felt compelled to stick to my plan. A year ago I was strongly motivated by my health issues but with the initial loss that concern has been less pressing so it was hard to kick myself into gear again. I plan to use this group to help keep me on track. Thanks everyone.
Good job! My daily goal is under 1400 calories, but I'm usually closer to 1100 calories. I'm 5'8" and 166 lbs today. I intend to be 150 lbs by Fall and then reward myself with "tummy-tuck" surgery to remove the excess skin I grew over the last 30-years. I document everything I eat/drink and daily weight. Nothing I drink has any calories. When I want a snack I think of high-bulk, low-calorie snacks... usually raw vegetables. I guess my body just prefers the process of chewing, swallowing and feeling like I actually ate something over the notion of limiting myself to a tiny portion of something more calorie-dense. I don't think, talk, or write the names of any high-calorie foods... we all know what they are and they're just not in my vocabulary anymore. After a couple years of doing this, I vastly prefer a bowl of crisp raw green beans (8 oz = 72 calories) to snack on than other more "typical" snack-food options. Anything made in a factory and eaten from a box or bag is out of the question. I've eliminated almost 1/3 of my body weight in the past 3-years. The achievement of documenting a new low-weight on my digital scale (measures tenths of a pound) is all the reward I need for my healthy eating habits. Buying new clothes a size smaller is a thrill that's hard to beat!
I hope the rest of you folks on here can get on-board with this and bring the obesity "battle" out of the closet and onto this page where we can all see it and help encourage and reward you. I will never tell you it's OK to fall-back in your efforts because for me it is not. This is a battle for life for all of us and to win the war on obesity we have to win every single battle. Look at some of my past posts for ideas.
You are welcome, and thank you for sharing. When one person does good, it inspires others. I think your idea of reporting daily is a good one. I shall report today what and how much I eat in a Daily Diary (DDmmddyyyy), a 'post'; each person who reports may make a 'comment' and edit it during the day (or submit it all at once).
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
