Diet diary: My calorie counting is getting a bit lax, though I am trying to write down everything I eat, so that i don't deceive myself that I am eating less than I really am. I am pleased with the way my diet is going, though - I know i am eating so much less than I was that it must be working!

I know what you mean that you don't want to deceive yourself. I'm eating less than in former years, no in-between snacks now and smaller proportions. But, I haven't lost weight in a couple of months, so I must have been deceiving myself about the calories per proportion.

Portion size is vital! I know several people who complain that they can't lose weight despite a healthy diet and when I see their portions, I know why. It is so easy just to go a little over the amount you are calculating for. I often find myself weighing out 100 grams of something then popping in an extra bit because it looks so nice! And even very small extra bits add up over time.

@CeliaVL I've been eating far smaller proportions than when I was out of control, less than half. Yet, I seem to be on a weight plateau. I need lots more exercise, but small injuries are in the way.

@CeliaVL Measuring by volume, half a cup of chili, half a cup of blueberries, 2 tbl peanut butter, etc.

@EdEarl It's hard for me to know what your measurements mean! We don't use the cup and spoon system in Europe, so it's always really hard to use American recipes. We weigh evberything in pounds and ounces if we are old, and in grammes if we are younger than 60! If you have reached a plateau, maybe do sometyhing different for a few days, to get you jump-started into losing again? Do a couple of fast days, or whatever suits you best?
