12/09/2018 - Diet Diary for All, add your own diet diary.
Pretty good day, came in at 1234 calories, just under 30 calories less than my "allowance" for the day. I try to avoid going too low for too many days in a row as it drives my metabolism down. Want to run between 1000 and 1271 (limit) for a few days. Got my blood panel today, cholesterol is up again this year, at 209 which is above my normal over a number of years. It was the same last year but both years I was actively dieting and had lost 15-20 pounds in the months before the tests. Reading up on it I found this could be the result of dieting, which can cause build-up in the arteries to fall away into the bloodstream, thus raising the numbers on tests. I didn't think about it again until this test result came in. I see the doctor at the end of the month. I think I will ask her about having the test again, maybe after the holidays when I should have been in maintenance mode for a few months.
My readings that indicate chronic inflammation went down however, perhaps because I started taking an Aleve daily. I hope so because that is an easy thing to do. Exercise class was cancelled today as the senior center was setting up for the cross state garage sale weekend. Found a faux stained glass "picture" to hang in my front window. Gotta get up in the AM and take my neighbor to the doctor. Good dieting to all!
Goal 1200 calories, 800 curls and 200 pushes with 5 lb dumbbells
My weight is 355, which was a disappointment. I must be estimating my calories too low, so will reduce portion sizes or increase calorie estimates.
Breakfast: Blueberries 100
Peanut butter sandwich 300
Lunch: Chili, rice and salad 450
Dinner: Brussels sprouts 50, 1/2 c mashed potatoes 100, peanut butter sandwich 300
Exercise: Recovering from pulled muscle.
That estimating can be real tricky. I did it at first although I did measure some stuff that would go in a measuring cup but it wasn't working so well. I got myself a little counter-top scale and started weighing or measuring EVERYTHING. I was shocked at how many of my guestimates were off, not in my favor. When I'm seriously dieting I now weigh or measure all my food. When I am on maintenance guessing seems to be close enough, although I do go up 2-4 pounds every so often and have to take a few days of dieting to bring that back down. If I measured a bit on maintenance I might not have to do intermittent dieting. I'll have to consider that this winter as I will probably be on maintenance during holiday season.
Hope your changes work for you. It would be very discouraging to "diet" for weeks and not see any results.
@DotLewis I have a scale, but haven't used the tools I have with precision. I cook chili, which includes a can of beans, a can of tomatoes, textured soy protein, herbs and spices. I haven't, but can add-up the calories for the individual ingredients. The part I have not done is figure out how many total cups of chili I make, so I can know how much to eat. I'm not a person who follows a recipe exactly. I cook by feel rather than measure.
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
