I want to fast; though, my doctor doesn't want me to. I think diabetics may not handle ketoses well. That is, they may develop ketoacidosis. According to Wikipedia, "In diabetic ketoacidosis, a high concentration of ketone bodies is usually accompanied by insulin deficiency, hyperglycemia, and dehydration." Hyperglycemia is a stealth condition, which damages organs; then you know. My feet are numb, bad or hiking; caused by hyperglycemia and/or high blood serum cholesterol.

I"m frustrated by 150 lbs of fat that has helped ruin my life. I've hit a plateau at 355 lbs, eating about 1200 calories a day! That's half of the FDA recommended calories. I'm also having difficulty lowering my calories any more. If I cannot do something to get off this plateau, having a positive attitude will be difficult. A bout of depression is dangerous and unacceptable. The risk of ketoacidosis during a fast is acceptable. I must test my blood glucose and urine ketones daily or more, drink lots of water, and take my diuretic every day.

I don't know that I'm emotionally ready to fast; although, I've made the case logically that it is a better idea than staying at my current weight and becoming depressed. There's a little hope that my body will start loosing weight again at 1000-1200 calories. That's enough to prevent depression; I mean, loosing any amount prevents depression. The hope will fade if I don't loose weight. My doctor says that I should be patient and allow the vegan, whole foods diet, to work; everyone will loose down to normal weight.

It's easiest to go with the flow and be patient. How much can a metabolism slow; what's the minimum nutrition needed to maintain my current weight? I'll continue my regimen for a while, but the first sign of depression requires a fast.
