I've known for a long time that bread is high in calories and low in nutrients, so should be eaten in small quantities, if at all. Today I learned that peanuts and cashews have such high fat content they are not recommended. So, my peanut butter sandwiches must go. I like them, but I can do it. On the other hand, I've never stopped eating a thing only once. I've stopped eating chicken at least 100 times. But, over time I eat less and less of something I desire to stop. I cannot remember the last time I had pork, over 40 years I think.
Don't give up changing your life. Try, try again; it leads to progress.
I stopped eating red meat (anything from mammals) 10-years ago for multiple reasons and only eat chicken breast (no dark meat) for health reasons. Peanuts and cashews had to leave my life if I was ever to lose weight. Peanut products are an addiction for me... can't stop once I start... so I don't. Walnuts and almonds I eat in tiny doses... maybe 2# together so far in 2018. With all of these, it's all about the oil. Hard to lose weight if you keep eating fats and oils. They all have about 120 calories per Tbs. For that same 120 calories I could eat a whole pound of steamed or roasted cauliflower. I've lost 80# in 40-months at least partially by eliminating some things completely. For me, that's generally easier than limiting it.
Thank you, good advice. Although, I've quit chicken again. A few years back, I was suffering from neuropathic pain that did not respond to pain drugs and lasted several years. Moreover, I'd been on blood pressure meds for a decade.
Then, for the first time in my life, I ate vegan for almost three months, when several things happened rapidly. My untreatable pain went away. I got a systemic infection that hospitalized me with an antibiotic IV drip for almost two months. Within a week of being admitted to the hospital, the attending doctor removed my blood pressure medicine. That was over five years ago. At the time I weighed about 450 lbs. Today I'm about 350, with 110/70 blood pressure. That convinced me that a plant based whole grain diet is superb.
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
