A year ago, I was diagnosed as being diabetic. My A1c was 11.7. I weighed in at 310 lbs. There was so much wrong with my medically. This was a line in the sand for me. My doctor recommended meds and losing weight with the South Beach Diet (SBD).

So I researched the SBD and realized that it would not be sustainable for me. I had heard about Keto (Low Carb, Adequate Protein, High Fat) as a way of eating. So I next researched this - VERY thoroughly. I found that this way of eating had a much higher probability of me sticking with it than anything else I had looked at.

I started doing it on February 4th of this year. As of this morning, I weighed in at having lost 90 lbs so far. It wasn't until about the beginning of April that I began to read about the benefits of this way of eating as it related to diabetes. This video was my first real introduction to the idea of Keto as a method to control diabetes.

I began to get excited about what it could do for me. It kept me motivated for eating this way. At my last follow up appointment, my A1c had dropped to 5.6. It is now NORMAL!!!!!

When I first started monitoring my blood glucose readings, they started in the 140-160 range. They are now between 90-110 regularly. My body also now deals with glucose spikes far more effectively that it did before. I had a family celebration dinner at a high end restaurant and while the meal was mostly keto, there was an abundance of bread (a big no-no) and an amazing dessert (another no-no). I fully expected to go home, check my glucose level and find an astronomical number - I was expecting like a 180 - 200. I had eaten that many carbs. At two hours after eating this amazing meal, I got the LOWEST reading I had ever gotten: 85!!!!

Anyways, I no longer take any medications for my diabetes and it stays controlled strictly through how I eat. This way of eating has transformed my life!!! I wish you luck in your journey. If I can be of assistance, please reach out.

Great job

I have diabetes, which was worse before I got serious about my diet. Sometimes I forget to take my evening metformin, for example last night. This morning my glucose was only 120. I'm on a reduced calorie diet (about 1200 calories per day), which has done wonders for my blood pressure (no longer take BP meds) and helped with my diabetes. My A1c is always good. I've pinned a post about my diet (Plant Based Whole Foods). It's not the only good diet, but it works for many people.

I had neuropathy in my feet; they are still numb. However, around 2001 for nearly six years, I suffered pain in my left foot that was very bad, continual, and none of six pain specialists could give me anything that would alleviate that pain. I just suffered. Then, I got on my vegan, whole food, diet and less than three months later my BP was normal without meds; although I weighed 400+ pounds, and my pain stopped. That made a believer in the plant-based whole-food diet; LOL its almost a religious fervor. Beware.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.
