26/11/2018 - Diet Diary
For anyone to share their diet day in a comment below.
Sometimes I'm late to make these, so please feel free to do so yourself. Just copy this preamble and change the date.
Good day for doing jobs inside the house. Snow was melting and it was warmer than yesterday but not really playing outside weather. Have a bunch of tools/equipment to put away from the last 2 projects. Then I can drag a new batch out to start the next project. The buffet/bench is not "done", it still needs to be painted but that is not the first priority and it will work fine in browns until I get some other things done. Next is to start installing the cabinets on the wall where the buffet used to stand, making a full wall of cabinets and shelves.
Busy work is good, less time to think about eating extra things. Plus, it really is nice to get some things done that I have been planning for quite some time. I had a long list of "to do" projects when I retired 7 years ago, mostly improvements to my house that I wanted to make. I was really looking forward to being retired and working on the many things I had not had time for before. Then, 4 weeks after I retired, my dad died.
I was the one who had to deal with all the details, arrangements for him, dealing with his pets, dealing with his property, much of which ended up in my garage and basement and getting rid of his house, boat and vehicles, none of which was worth much of anything. By the time I had done all that, I had lost my momentum I guess. It was just in the last year that I have finally started consistently working on some of the projects. So much more to do but at least I'm moving forward.
So, now that you have way more information than you needed, the report for today is, intake of 1460, a little under my limit. Struggling a little with snack impulses since Thanksgiving, will need to exert more control when it comes to snacks and get back into the routine of the intermittent fasting, which was going very well until a couple weeks ago. Although I'm not working on losing weight at the moment, I do not want to lose control of the maintenance plan and end up having to make up lost ground after the holiday season.
Sorry about your Dad. My father died in 72, of an aneurysm in his head that burst, he was jogging age 52.
@EdEarl That is sad. My dad lived to 81, so I can't say he didn't have a good run. Also, much of what killed him was probably connected to years of bad habits like smoking, drinking, eating poorly (chips & bologna sandwiches poor) After he had a heart attack, doctor told him to lose weight. Having been lean, with a high metabolism until he retired, he had NO concept of how to do this.
For years I knew he had an arrogant attitude about weight, that those who were fat were just lacking motivation, self control, etc. Well, you know the attitude. He was always looking for the "magic" weight loss system but he never found it. Sadly, even with all the diets I have been on and all the struggles I've had with weight all my life, I sometimes catch myself having judgmental thoughts when I see an overweight person. Not a trait I am proud of but sometimes things we "learn" as children will just not let go.
@DotLewis Dad and I weren't close; he was absent in my early years.
My search for the magical diet was similar to your dad's. It tends to cause a person to give up on dieting. One reason I post here daily is I hope someone understands my message.
Losing weight is easy, but you must make changes in what you eat. People like what they eat. To change the foods you like, just start eating something you don't like much, and keep eating it. Given time, you will dislike it less and less, and one day you will like it. Conversely, stop eating something you like, and your craving for it will slowly subside and die. I once ate double cheeseburgers and loved them. I grew up eating bacon and eggs for breakfast and pork chops with mashed potatoes and gravy. I remember my last bite of a cheeseburger, from one my wife was eating. It tasted awful, like a bite of thick fat on my tongue; it was a shock that it tasted bad, a total surprise.
If you want to change your diet, try try again. Don't give up. You can learn to like and really love things you once thought tasted bad. There are two exceptions for me. We are programmed to like sweets; just change to fruit instead of refined sugar. Some people find greens bitter, and that will not go away AFAIK. I eat some greens because they are good for me, not because I like them. Oh the other hand, there are many vegetables I enjoy. Good sauces without sugar and fat are a cdhallenge.
Being judgmental about being fat is necessary to lose weight; we must judge ourselves, and that spills over to the general population. Moreover, we are programmed to like healthy bodies. Don't beat yourself up too much. If a person learns to eat right, they will lose weight, and they will be healthier. That's a good thing.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
