5 April 2019 - Diet Diary - No report for today, got really busy with moving stuff into the cabinets I put in the dining room and planting some stuff in the garden (kale and garlic) and didn't put down food as I ate it. Tried to recall later but not sure what I may have missed. I did get enough to know that odds are I went higher than I wanted today, maybe 14-15K, hopefully no more than that.
As I said, kept busy today, unfortunately it did not keep my hands out of the fridge. Part of the problem was that moving things into the cabinets meant moving/handling stuff I had stored in the spare room, This included several "snack" items, which I have gotten quite good at ignoring and "rationing" without completely eliminating from my domain. Having to move them and arrange them in cabinets however easily transitioned to "taste testing" several of them. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and all the stuff is relocated.
Handling food is always difficult, especially open packets of snacks. Normally in my house there are no partly-eaten packets of snacks. They are either unopened and hidden, or else empty. I rarely buy them because I know I can't trust myself.
I've really improved my ability to have things in the house and not eat right through them but it isn't 100% by any means. I do keep stuff stashed away where it's not visible and/or would take some effort to get it, like ice cream gets portioned into little containers then put in the basement deep-freeze. When I think of eating some, I have to think about it a bit, decide if I really want it because I will have to go down and get it and if I decide to have some, I get one container and go back upstairs. Moving all the containers of things made it harder because I was handling them and it was so easy to grab a little. These aren't all "horrible" things, there were raisins, trail mix, nuts. Not bad, even on a diet but when I've already had my caloric allocation for the day, it isn't good to have my hands on these things.
"Keeping your hands out of the fridge"...so much easier said than done! It sounds like the cabinet making is keeping you busy....
I'm in Puerto Rico...no scale here...so I have to judge by how I feel, how I fit my clothes...I've been eating a lot...but being a lot more active. I'll be home in Ft. Pierce this time tomorrow....we'll see how I did....
The cabinets have actually launched a major remodeling project. I started painting, including woodwork, tore up floor in the kitchen so I can start putting down new. I.guess it is what I do instead of travel.
Hope you are having a good visit to Puerto Rico. Doesn't sound like things are great down there yet, at least in parts of it. Are you just visiting or helping out? Your increased activity level should balance out increased consumption. Safe travels!
@DotLewis Friend Tom is apparently having a good time; he feels good if he's appreciated. His living conditions are borderline poverty...but I keep telling him he needs to find a cleaning person/assistant to help him - which will raise the level of quality for his apartments here in Jobos Beach (P.R.).
He has decent occupants...but he lets them get by on very minimal fees...he's just unselfish to a fault...the main way I contribute is not so much with my labor (at 73 I'm just not that useful) but with $$ for supplies, materials, etc.
Here's a video of what he's doing...
@Robecology That's really cool! The project and the dedication of all the people involved is wonderful. I will stop here, avoiding a political rant as I'm sure you share some of the same opinions regarding the subject of Puerto RIco's recovery.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
