Try moving this to it's own post instead of a comment. It is more likely to be noticed and get some replies that way.
I have a friend who had lap band but no personal experience. I know the lap band worked pretty well for her for a while then it had some problems and she kind of "worked around" it, gaining back a fair bit of weight and finally had to have it "deflated" (?) because she was having a lot of GERD symptoms. She has considered bypass but I think she has shelved the idea for now but hasn't completely discarded it.
