5/25/18 friday
ok so i am up to 10 lbs gained ! Follow up appointment is coming up and hopefully i can find out what is going on with my body.
I have alot of emotional stress going on in my life right now and i find myself making really bad food choices.....I have to get back on track some how!
A lot of us seem to be having the same problem. I am in a very bad patch at the moment with my weight. I absolutely have to get it down. i am in pain, can barely walk, and may be refused an operation if I don't get it down, and yet I am not succeeding. I am going through a difficult time emotionally but that is not going to change any time soon, so I have to find a strategy. I am beginning to think the only solution is to have no food in the house and to eat out every meal at a restaurant I have prewarned what not to serve me!
It is tough. If you are under stress, your body produces cortisol and this makes it difficult for you to lose weight. The body has primitive defense mechanisms, and one of the most stubborn is to preserve fat. If your body thinks for a second it is starving, it will fight you with every ounce of vigor, and there is not much you can do. Try to eliminate stress...if you can. I know, I shouldn't even have stress, but I invent it when I can. Dumb humans.
We ALL have made bad food choices. 98% of what's sold in stores and restaurants today are truly "bad food choices" created for taste and addictions and not for health. Stock your kitchen with GOOD food choices! You don't even have a choice if all you have at home is calorie-dense, high-salt, high-sugar, high-fat, processed foods! First, get rid of that stuff and stock your kitchen with fresh fruits, veggies, healthy fish and skinless chicken breast. Tree nuts and whole grains, too, but in VERY limited amounts due to caloric density. Frozen is fine as long as there are no other added ingredients... no sauce, no salt. Eat those things and nothing else and the weight will melt off. I'm down 75-pounds now from May of 2015 with no other techniques whatsoever. That's almost 1/3 of my original weight. The above is ALL you need to know for weight loss and return to health.
@twshield I too have all the emotions and stress that most people have. You need to train your brain to release those happy chemicals (four main 'feelgood' chemicals – endorphin, oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine) each time you lose another pound... and NOT when you eat another calories-dense snack or meal. Consider what I said... start stocking the kitchen with healthy options and NEVER re-purchase the unhealthy ones. Use current stock as "treats" between the lower-calories healthy foods. It gets easier and easier. The brain starts rewarding you more for getting thinner instead of consuming fatty, sweet and salty things. You have to try it to see.
@twshield Yep... eating out can be a problem. My rule is to go for salads only when dining in a restaurant, but be careful, the dressings can kill your calorie counting. Any good restaurant will make you a special vegetable plate if their salads aren't what you want. It's usually pretty good. Add roasted chicken breast to that for a great meal.
@twshield I found a great salad dressing brand that's just 10-calories per ounce. They have 4 or 5 flavors, all zero-fat and 10-calories. Compare to regular Ranch dressing at 145-calories/oz. The brand is "SkinnyGirl", sold at Walmart... ask nice and they'll sell to guys, too! The flavors are all OK except for the "Ranch"... ugh.
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
