There was a question on here- but it vanished before I even had a chance to read it. "Do you think the Industrial Revolution was enhanced by religion?" I said ,"Yes". It had not one thing to deal with a love of religion. The 18th century was still jammed with religious mythology and terror--- of going to hell. Workers worked 10 and 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. On the seventh day they worshipped their ego-maniac god-dude.
I think the progress is hindered by religion. Just think about all the knowledge inquisition prevented from sharing and developing! The industrial evolution happened because people started realizing the power of science over mythical creature and domineering institution. Just read the 18th century philosophers like Voltaire and 19th century philosopher like Marx and Engels.
