I like quiet but have discovered that total silence lets me think too much, so I often have a book or talk radio on, sometimes music when I am alone. I love the the quiet serenity of nature but do not have that on a daily basis.
The worst noise is bar noise, or Home Depot.

Just got back from a solo kayak trip. Not silence, but calm. The sounds of the water, the wind whispering through the trees, two deer swimming across the river in front of me, the sound of the birds singing and ducks quacking. That's my kind of silence, and my soul was nourished.
