Someone raised a question on another post regarding our introverted response (or non-response) to other people. That started me thinking (which is always dangerous).
If someone is thought provoking and intellectually stimulating, I'll generally engage. But I can quickly pass by the ones that just blather on about the mundane or the minutiae of their lives. Maybe it's sometimes not introversion but the unwillingness to suffer fools gladly.
So now I wonder, are we really introverts or just intellectual snobs? What do you think?
I think we will be pondering the answers till our dying day. I find that for a great many things there is simply no right or wrong and most answers only open ten more questions
PS I can be a moody bastard and can get lost in thought and also worry so seem distant or disinterested at times find that to be the most important thing governing how I might react to someone at any particular time and place
@DerrickWelsh Isn't one of the Four Agreements "Don't take anything personally"? We sometimes react to people's behavior as if they intended to insult us, while in reality it often has nothing to do with us.
I think not dealing with small talk is something different. Maybe a subset?
Introversion is just finding social interaction draining, exhausting.
PS I think I was born pretentious. I may not have an objective perspective.
Drawing and exhausting may be you repressing deep empathy which is felt not thought....tuning out from idiots is self preservation
I don't think being selective makes one a snob.
Pushy chatty people are their own brand of snob to impose upon us
Neither do I
Hyperselective, yes. A snob, no.
On the other hand, if someone chooses to hang around only with rich people are they snobs? Or just being "selective"?
Apples and oranges.
Good listener and critical thinker politely withdrawing from idle chatter
Why not both?
Yeah, that’s me. Once I have the connection though, I can talk for a hour about nothing, lol. I just have to know the depth is actually there.
If I need blather, I can get that at a grocery checkout stand.
Oooooh, I really AM a snob!
