Questions. Is it just me, or is it really hard to find someone that can understand an introverts need for alone time? Do people attempt to make you feel guilty for being different?

Yes and yes. The only people who truly understand introverts are other introverts.

The extroverts almost certainly don't. Introvert certainly do, and the ambiverts usually do understand.

Some are nice enough to try and work with my space needs even though they don't understand. Many though don't get it and don't care enough to be respectful.

Not many understand.

No it's not just you. Most of my friends are extroverts, and they don't understand why I'm constantly refusing invitations to do "group things" and things in general. Yikes! I can't think of anything I'd less enjoy than a girls' weekend. On the other hand, I wish I enjoyed those kinds of things cause they always seem to have a good time, though I can't imagine why. I'm always conflicted 🙂

Alone time is important for everyone, not just introverts...

The difference is, extroverts feel de-energized after alone time. They require interaction with people, just like introverts require alone time. To an extrovert, interactions with others give them energy and alone time depletes it. To an introvert, it's just the opposite. We process our thoughts and feelings better when we're alone. An extrovert processes feelings by getting input from and interaction with others. Extroverts are the ones asking all their friends IRL and on social media, "what should I do about this situation?" or "tell me how I should style my hair next," or "help me make a decision about..." whatever. Introverts, on the other hand, have no need to do that. We prefer to reflect on our decisions and choices on our own. ...All of which is to say, while extroverts may need some alone time, it does different things for them than it does for introverts, which is what leads to the misconceptions, miscommunication and often the divide between us.
