It happened again last night. But it wasn't a cop this time. At one point, it sounded like he was in the house, but he was under the house, in the crawlspace, banging on the floor and shouting. It sounded like he was tromping around inside my house. Thankfully, the cops did show up a few minutes after that and arrested the guy.
That's how I felt a few weeks ago when I was awakened by someone rang my doorbell at 1:30 am, multiple times at once, then walked around my house (which I heard and saw light on my curtains from waving a flashlight about). At first, 911 was going to send out someone to check, then... said it actually was the cops. Note that there was no cop car at my house, and said cop never tried to identify himself.
They need a better procedure, like don't approach a house after dark unless they can be easily identified by the occupant looking out a window, i.e. put their car viewable from the front door with lights flashing.
It happened to me yesterday. Doorbell rang... instant panic. Thank god I have a Ring Doorbell. Two female pushers at my door. They were either pushing a politician or pushing god. I just sat as quiet as a mouse til they went away. Dodged another bullet.
