I love bending them until they snap at the point where they start to get chewy, at dawn when they are cool and crisp and covered in dew. A real treat to eat while the birds are singing and I am using my collinear hoe to remove the little weeds that try to endlessly sneak into my garden.
Well written!
I love them raw or about any other way. In the 60s and 70s i had several wild patches of asparagus to keep tabs on to catch at the right time. Made for some good meals for a young family.
I had some early but i harvested them heavy last several years so it is a recoup year in my asparagus patch.
When we decided on an asparagus bed for our garden, I overdid it. Bought two varieties and planted a bed about 30 x 2 feet. The batch in the photo went to a neighbor. There'll be another batch about that size, daily, for awhile.
@bigpawbullet Mine is a little larger at 40 foot by 4 rows but my spacing is about 18 inches and have a scattering of seedlings that i let grow to replace some aged ones. Dug up one old crown that petered out.
@HerbertNewsam
We're finding volunteer ones all over our property in garden and landscape beds. Chipmunks?
@bigpawbullets birds.
